Global Lyme Alliance (GLA) has awarded over $19 million towards their Lyme and tick-borne disease research program to date. GLA-funded projects have led to unprecedented advances in such areas as prevention, diagnosis and the treatment of tick-borne illnesses.
GLA-funded researchers—who were the first to prove the existence of the previously disputed chronic Lyme condition—have decoded the Lyme genome, discovered how the disease can survive antibiotic therapy, and now understand far more about what makes the Lyme bacterium different than any other type of infection. Learn more about their research.
There is an opportunity for everyone—to sponsor, attend, organize, host, or donate—to help GLA create real change in the battle against Lyme disease.
Global Lyme Alliance events range from our signature galas, experiential events, charity endurance programs, sporting events, and grassroots initiatives.

Research & Science
GLA’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) provides strategic guidance and direction for our research and scientific programs. It is made up of some of the most distinguished researchers and clinical innovators in multidisciplinary fields in Lyme and tick-borne disease. These leaders advise on overall strategy to direct GLA’s grant funds into research programs judged to have the best prospects of delivering measurable results and the greatest impact.
GLA hosts an annual symposium for SAB members and grant recipients, to foster brainstorming of new diagnostic and therapeutic measures, communication of ideas and collaboration.
The Financial Review Sub-Committee of the SAB is composed of business leaders with extensive strategic, operational and senior management experience. Its priority is to bridge the gap between the research community and the marketplace with the goal of transitioning successful research programs into accessible treatments that are readily available to patients.

Peer-to-Peer Mentor Program
Global Lyme Alliance developed a peer-to-peer mentor support program; a free resource for people who are affected by Lyme disease and/or other tick-borne illness. Lyme patients, caregivers, and family members who have questions or just need to talk can connect with someone who has already “been there” and can provide support and hope. Peer mentors are people who have been diagnosed with Lyme disease and/or other tick-borne illness or are caring for someone who has and understands what you are going through.
You are not in this journey alone! Connecting people who are affected by Lyme disease and/or other tick-borne illness benefits everyone. This program is meant to inspire members of the tick-borne disease community by providing support that will keep both the peer mentors and the people they are assisting moving forward in their individual journeys.
Caregivers and family members face different challenges as the primary support for patients. Connecting with others who are or have been in a similar role can provide an outlet for sharing emotions and for help in finding new ways to lighten the load.
